Guildhall School of Music and Drama announces summer season of events

The events are running from the end of April until the beginning of July and offer a mixture of pre-recorded and live shows. All are free to attend, although some require registration on the Guildhall’s website to gain admission.

The school’s summer jazz festival is spread across three days of performances, and features faculty members, special guests, alumni and musicians popular on the UK jazz scene. These include opening act Fini Bearman’s quintet, My Iris led by Trish Clowes, SKYLLA by Ruth Goller and Lucid Dreamers by Brigitte Beraha, who wraps up the festival on 6 May. Following the festival are concert performances by a jazz orchestra and choir on 19 May.

For opera lovers, Guildhall’s opera department presents “a feast of five contrasting short operatic works: three new chamber operas and two early pieces from the Baroque era.” The new chamber operas are getting their fully staged premieres and are performed in association with the Royal Opera House. The final live stream is on 7 June.

Those needing their theatre fix will love the Guildhall’s three drama productions of the modern classics of Love and Information by Caryl Churchill (29-30 April, 1 May); Anne Washburn’s Mr. Burns, a post-electric play (20, 24 and 25 May) and Bola Agbaje’s Gone Too Far! (22, 26 and 27 May).
