Lucy Hale appointed inaugural Composer-in-Residence at Orchestras For All

Orchestras for All has recently announced Lucy Hale will be appointed Composer-in-Residence for the 2019-2020 season.

Working with the National Orchestra for All (NOFA), Hale will create a new piece of music to be premiered at the season finale concert in April next year. The 2019-2020 season is entitled My Roots, Our Routes and will explore music inspired and influenced by human migrations. The creative process will entail Hale leading the NOFA in two days of composition at the end of this month and then orchestrating the piece ahead of next year's performance.

Hale is currently completing her Master of Music in Composition at the Royal Northern College of Music, and works with Drake Music as a trainee Associate Musician, helping to deliver composition workshops to young people with disabilities.

The NOFA is the only non-auditioned and free to participate national youth orchestra in the country. With young musicians being nominated by music teachers and social workers for their dedication despite challenging circumstances, many participants live with chronic health conditions or disabilities or face socio-economic deprivation.

Orchestras for All aim to ensure young people can access music and have the opportunity to collaborate, play together and develop their confidence.
