Stretchis a new event concept dedicated to everyone working in the dance sector. The 2-day programme includes panel discussions led by renewed names in the industry, professional development workshops, performances, and networking opportunities across two venues in South East London. Created and produced by diagonal dance.

Stretch, a new conference and showcase event by diagonal dance, brings its first edition to South East London from Friday 10 - Saturday 11 March 2023, at Moonshot Centre (New Cross) and The Ivy House (Nunhead). The event includes 9 panel discussions, 3 workshops, 2 performances, and 1 networking after-party, with the support of Arts Council England and Arts Fundraising & Philanthropy.

Inês Carvalho and Bernardo Queiros, co-founders of diagonal dance, reflect on the value of creating more opportunities to bring the dance sector together: “We know how hard it is towork in dance: a demanding art form both for the body and mind. With a significant freelanceworkforce, it can get lonely to make it through. You most likely end up wearing multiple hatsand learning how to be a producer, a marketeer, an admin, and – lastly – an artist. Yet,there’s a big lack of opportunities in developing those skills, to discuss and share expertise with fellow colleagues. Stretch creates a space for dance students and professionals toconnect and learn from each other”.

Through surveys and interviews with professionals working in the performing arts field, thepanel programme was co-created in order to meet the industry’s current needs. Topics suchas Fundraising, Diversity & Inclusion, or How To Diversify your Career Path will be led byguest panellists widely known within the sector. Avatâra Ayuso (AVA Dance Company),Reece McMahon (Chisenhale Dance Space), Tamar Dixon (One Dance UK), and BeverleyGlean MBE (IRIE! dance theatre), are some of the names joining Stretch 2023.

The tickets are now on sale through the ticketing platformEventual. As a warm-up to the liveevent, diagonal has also launched an online community on Slack, where ticket holders canaccess exclusive news and updates about the event, while the open channels share jobopportunities, tips, and resources.
