16-year-old Poppy was nominated for TrinityTalent for her Creative Flair. She achieved Gold Arts Award with the Arts Award Initiative (AAI). Poppy developed her fine art skills by learning photography. She created an impressive final installation which showcased her work with various art mediums.

Poppy's Arts Award adviser, Carol Leach, said: "Like all teenagers Poppy has been negatively affected by the pandemic, and she used her art to work through her feelings during this time. As a result she created a poignant installation."

The TrinityTalent panel said: "Poppy has shown a really interesting process behind the 'making of her work', producing a very highly reflective piece of art."

How do you feel about being selected to be part of TrinityTalent Class of 2021 and being recognised in this way?
Honoured, huge surprise! Delighted!

How do you feel you have developed creatively and artistically in 2021?
I think I have really improved working within the Arts Award structure, it has helped me to really look, and stretch myself artistically, and to push, experiment and create.

What impact did your Arts Award achievement have on your artistic development?
Well, it helped me to focus, and explore, really to find out what I wanted to achieve, and taught me to give all I have to get the best out of myself artistically.

Has taking part in an Arts Award helped you to develop wider skills, such as communication skills, creativity or confidence?
Yes, definitely. Also, I must mention my mentor Carol Leach, who was a really positive influence. At those times when I was getting stressed she was a lovely calming voice, and helped me to plan, breathe, and believe.

What are the next steps for you artistically and creatively in 2022?
I'm hoping to go on to college and study within the creative industries. The Arts Award qualification will really help to show on paper what I can achieve to prospective colleges, as it's nationally recognised and counts towards UCAS points.

Have you got any advice for other young people working towards an Arts Award?
I would say, don't give up. I know when you first begin it can seem like a lot of work, but trust your adviser, trust yourself, don't give up and work through it. Give yourself goals and enjoy the journey. You can achieve it and it's so worth it, to see what you can do when you try.

Is there anything creative you’re currently working on you’d like to tell us about?
I'm continuing with my art and building my portfolio for college. I'm currently experimenting with work in different mediums, and I'm so please I've got the Arts Award Gold. I'm very proud, as are my parents.
