Jakob Charlie Lucas, Rock & Pop

Hi Jakob! What was your experience of taking exams with Trinity College?

Whilst I still felt the pressure of an exam, I felt confident and radiant in the performance.

In what ways do you feel like your creative talent has progressed?

It has allowed me to explore new music, develop my playing and enjoy playing, too.

What did you find most valuable to you personally about taking your Trinity College qualification?

The sense of achievement.

What did you find inspiring?

The opportunity to play along to these well-known and critically-acclaimed tracks.

What did you find most challenging?

Practising the technical aspects of the tracks – these were the most rewarding, once they were mastered.

What are you going to do next - and has your qualification helped you?

I’m going to go on and take Grade 8 within the next year.

Who gave you the most help and inspiration?

James Sedge (my drum teacher) and listening to artist such as Steely Dan, Jamiroquai and Talking Heads.

Have you been involved in any recent projects?

I played drums on a new EP for singer Oscar Roche, filmed and edited a music video for his track which are all out this month.

What do you hope to be doing in five years?

To be working as a music video director and 35mm film photographer.

What advice would you give others looking to take to the take the same qualification as you?

Stick with it. The feeling of talking each grade is very rewarding.
