Don McCullin Photography Exhibition Review

What was the title of the exhibition/show?

The exhibition was called Don McCullin.

Why did you choose to attend this exhibition/show?

I chose to attend this because I am interested in documentary photography.

Who were the artists and what do they create?

The photographer was Don McCullin and he creates documentary photography.

What did you see?

I saw a large number of photographs taken during his career. Most of the photographs were of things including war in different countries and the hardship of life in London and the north of England and there were also some landscapes.

What were your first impressions

My first impressions were that the grey walls made his black and white photographs really stand out. The photographs were spread out so you could see them clearly and the photos were grouped by the country they were taken in.

Did you find anything particularly interesting to you personally?

I found it interesting that all the photographs were in black and white because it helps you focus on the subject and it was also interesting to see Don McCullin’s Nikon camera that was hit with a bullet.

What did you learn which will help you to achieve your challenge?

I learnt that different perspectives are important in photography to help draw the viewer into the photo and that you should use different depths of field to frame different things.

Did you enjoy the experience overall?

Yes I enjoyed the exhibition because it was good to see the photographs in real life rather than just in a book or on a website.

What have you put into your portfolio to prove you went to this activity?

I have put in my ticket and photographs of me outside the Tate Liverpool. I was not allowed to take photographs inside the exhibition so I couldn’t get a photo of me viewing the exhibition.
