"All About Love" festival performance review

I attended a festival called “All about Love.” I watched live DJS and music performances.

It took place between the 4th - 8th August 2022

My review is about a performance by the artist Porangui Carvalho.

How Porangui Carvalho has inspired me.

I found the way Porangui Carvalho used technology and looping inspiring. The fact that it was just him making all the music and he could build a song out of different sounds using technology by himself I thought was interesting and inspiring. This is the type of music I like. I like using technology and I like the idea of being able to write music myself in this way.

The impact different art forms had on his performance.

During the performance Porangui Carvalho  used colourful lighting and a background projector of mountains and hills, the pictures moved fast, it felt like you were going on a journey with him as he was playing his music. I liked it because I liked looking into the mountains and it made me feel chilled and relaxed.

There was not a spotlight on him, so the performance was based on the lighting and the background pictures, and his music was there to create an atmosphere. Some of his music was chilled but some was more upbeat which people danced to.

What I enjoyed about the performance.

I liked the way he was making the music by looping sounds with lots of different and unusual instruments. He used a tom, digeridoo, finger harps, steel drums and other interesting instruments.

I thought it was amazing that he did it all himself but with the use of technology could combine the sound of the instruments.

What I found interesting about the performance.

He played many different and unusual instruments that I hadn't heard or seen before. I found this interesting, and it made me want to find out more about these instruments.

After watching Porangui Carvalho perform at the “All about Love festival” festival I have watched his music on YouTube, talked about his music in class with other students and my arts award adviser.

I watched videos on the finger harp and digeridoo on YouTube. I would recommend listening to his music and finding out about some of the interesting instruments he uses.
