Lucy has been nominated by music teacher Jemima Palfreyman for passing her Grade 8 saxophone exam with distinction. “Lucy has not only gained a fantastic achievement by passing her Grade 8 with distinction,” says Jemima, “but her composition skills are fantastic.” Her choral composition "For The Fallen" for chamber choir was performed at our Godolphin Remembers event for the WW1 Centenary Commemorations, and again at a commemoration service in Westminster Abbey.
According to Jemima, Lucy juggles an enormous program of academia and sports alongside her musical commitments. “She is also an excellent contributor to many of our school ensembles and choirs, and currently working towards her Grade 8 piano.”
Lucy says that achieving her Grade 8 saxophone has made her a much more confident and capable musician. “When working towards my exam, she says, “I found that I got better at sight reading and my playing style improved a lot. I’m now taking more risks and trying different techniques in my pieces so I can keep improving. The Grade 8 is a fantastic qualification to have gained and I’m thrilled to have achieved it.”
Lucy’s advice to fellow Trinity students?
“Try and practise every day, even if only for ten minutes. The more confident you are in your pieces and your playing, the better you’ll do in the exam and the less nervous you’ll be.”
