Natasha Lees | Trinity Talent 2018

Natasha has been nominated by music teacher Irita Kutchmy for passing her Grade 8 jazz saxophone exam with distinction. “Natasha has been able to improvise from the very earliest stages of learning,” says Irita, “and when I have accompanied her it has felt as if it is an equal partnership rather than pupil and teacher. Her musical imagination and instinctive understanding of the jazz idiom is exceptional.

Natasha has passed all of her jazz saxophone exams (Grades 1 to 8) with distinction. “She is just 14 years old, which is an outstanding achievement in itself,” Irita adds. “For her Grade 8, she achieved 93 marks, which reflects the professionally high standard of her playing. She has also passed Grade 8 piano this year, Grade 7 percussion last year and has been a member of the National Childrens’ Orchestra for the last four years.”

Natasha's advice to fellow Trinity students?
“Choose pieces that challenge you but that you LOVE playing.”  She also says that taking the exams has pushed her to try a range of styles, “improving not only my technique but my musicality.”
