Insightful article. It seems odd that an industry so focused on the product - namely a piece of art or a piece of music - can be subject to gender inequality. It would be interesting to see what would happen if artists and musicians published their stuff anonymously - do you think there would be any difference between the success of female work and the success of make work?
This article also made me wonder about the amount of professional female musicians/artists/actors - perhaps the issue lies in education and inspiration at a young age.
I would agree in that the problem seems to be getting better. Bands like wolf alice seem to be breaking through the 'glass ceiling', especially in a genre usually associated with gender inequality. However, one can look at older bands; the cranberries, spearheaded by singer o Riordan (RIP), saw great success in the late 90s, and is still seen today as one of the best singers of her generation.
