Voice Magazine is delighted to announce the 2023 Summer Showcase
Voice Magazine is excited to present the 2023 Voice Showcase. This year we were looking at the dynamics of power and vulnerability, and what it meant to you to acknowledge, own, wield and acquiesce to these forces.
As a species are we naturally drawn to power? Is vulnerability a weakness or an inner strength? What does power and control look like in your life, and what do you do to seize your own destiny? From the small daily ways we take control of our lives, to reflections on the wider socio-political forces that dictate our behaviour, we invited you to submit artwork that reflects on the question: What (or who) is power/less?
First introduced last year, we brought back the option of two categories for you to submit to, depending on where you are in your creative journey – Experimental and Established.
Judging the competition was writer, poet, and former Assistant Editor of Voice, Jack Solloway. Commenting on the entries, Jack said:
“Voice’s summer showcase this year brings together an eclectic smorgasbord of creative pursuits, with entries spanning visual arts, short fiction, documentary, and the study of biomaterials. The breadth and array of genres and techniques on show is remarkable, with entrants drawing on different traditions old and new. Our winning and commended entries honour the ambition and scope of the competition this year, and I’m delighted to spotlight all of the next-gen creators as part of Voice Magazine’s dedication to bringing forward emerging voices and early-career artists developing their work."
Join us in celebrating today’s creative youth and get to know the artists behind the submissions as they answer some questions about their artform and inspirations.
