James Dodds Wood - Water Exhibition at Firstsite

I went to an art exhibition at Firstsite called "Wood to Water" by James Dodds, born in 1957 in Brightlingsea.

James Dodds Wood - Water Exhibition at Firstsite

The exhibition was about the artist's paintings and wood carvings that he had made of boats/ports, etc. What I especially liked about his paintings was the bright colours he used - there were just about three to four colours in each coloured painting, but I found it realistic and nicely simple. He also did paintings of parts of boats, which were incredibly intricate and very impressive. The artist also made prints, which I found reminded me of comics - the prints were in black and white, and one of them had some colour. I really liked the prints, and I really like the artist's style of drawing humans. The wood carvings were wonderful, and very realistic - they just seemed to jump out of the picture. Overall, I found the exhibition very interesting, and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.2bd62ab52edacff6061fc8fc2fd716c38d584f94.jpg

It sounds like you had a great time at the exhibition. What did you learn from it? Were there elements of it that you didn't enjoy so much? You mention comic books, is this something you're interested about too? Thanks for posting!
