Margaret Thatcher, former prime minister and drag queen takes contestants through a politically themed game show where the aim is for 'strivers' or 'skivers' to get their golden giro. Her glamorous assistants named 'Strong' and 'Stable', who are anything but assistants when you see the near stage-stealing ownership they take of the show, join Thatcher.
With politically themed games and characters from across the political spectrum this was a show that felt as if it almost had too much material to fit in and then wheel back out at the end for comedic effect. They took on Brexit, the press and class while hearing from Nigel Farage, Jeremy Corbyn, Angela Merkel and more.
The latest iteration of Matt Tedford's drag Thatcher has a proven stage power. With a power over the audience that makes you ache to get involved in the games, she creates a legitimate game show experience with non-stop hilarious political gags. Commentary on austerity measures doesn't give a mismatched seriousness to the proceedings, which is telling of the ability of the writers to keep things light – as an understatement.
Infectiously positive and ram-packed show with laughter, games, and transcendental whimsy.
Margaret Thatcher Queen of Game Shows is on every day until 27 Aug at 21:00 at the Assembly George Square Gardens. For tickets and more info, visit the Fringe website.
