Jannai - "Dem Ago Burning Up"

I have chosen to review Cali.P Feat Capelton "Dem Ago Burnin Up" because it's one of my favourite music videos.

Jannai - "Dem Ago Burning Up"

The Plot

The video opens with an amazing quote from Haile Selassie which reads:

"Education is the gateway to everlasting enlightenment. There is no end to training and you should think of the completion of your education here as a commencement of the second chance of your assignment in life.."

The video is set in a town Jamaica We then see a teenage boy who wakes up and finds no food in the house and is hungry so asks his brother for money. The boy looks smart and dressed for work or school. He makes his way to school but first stops and buys himself some food. He then goes down a alleyway and talks to a group of men where it looks like he could be buying drugs or repaying a debt from his brother. He then goes to work at a parking lot and it shows the school as in what he could have had if he'd gained an education.

The message

We see the main singers singing in the school yard about the importance of education. They are saying how important in life it is to get a good education and not to go down the wrong route and ruin your life. I think this is a message about Jamaican culture where too many young men don't get a good education and end up in a life of crime and gang activity.

My Feedback

I like this video because it tells a really interesting story about life in Jamaica and people's struggle to survive. I like that it shows the reality of life in Jamaica and not just the glamorous life you see in some music videos about the country. I really like the singers and, in particular, the fact that they have obviously lived a life and haven't just been put there by a record company. They represent their culture in a better way than most artists.
