Located in the Caroline of Brunswick is a mind reader with comedy and charm to boot. Brighton-based David Terrence performed an hour of funny and impressive mind-reading and hypnosis based entertainment. An 8:45pm start time is generally indicative of a slightly more adult humour laced show, and this was case here.
The space dedicated for the Laughing Horse venue inside the pub was very laid-back. Terrence relied on very few props. All that was on stage was a parcel with a letter attachment, a microphone, a whiteboard and a suitcase - basic use of technology but it worked.
Adult humour was present in the show and some people were picked to come up to the 'stage' - including myself! I was asked to visualise a diary with everything I did today only to have ink spilled on it. I found myself pronouncing words incorrectly and when the ink cleared up, I could read words again. Then, I got asked to stay on stage and was put under hypnosis and told visualise a card, which was the 5 of Clubs. After bowing to the audience and returning to my seat, I found out that David guessed my card! He had success with other people too.
Overall, it was a great start to my Brighton Fringe experience and I recommend this show to anyone who wants to have a good laugh.
Hypnosis combined with humour? Love it!
