It's not often you see a one-man show turn into much more than that, but Damien Slash did it. Embodying various personas including that of a gambling addict, an enthusiastic gamer and a mineral water critic, he creates sketches to entertain.
Slash's well-written farcical show centres around a quick-change screen, with the running thread being utter absurdity and ridiculousness. Despite this, there was something deeper in his performance, a provocation regarding human stereotypes. By using only his voice, gait, and costume, we were manipulated into instantaneous judgements, making one consider whether anything is truly objective.
The piece was entertaining and held my focus, although perhaps wasn't as engaging or funny as Slash intended. Whilst I find comedy generally exciting, I found this particular show just didn't live up to my expectations or the hype of someone with over one million YouTube hits.
Overall, a charming, silly show executed by a talented writer and performer.
