Bubble Show For Adults Only

Impossible, incredible feats with bubbles…and some unnecessary extras

Bubble Show For Adults Only

It turns out there are a lot more things you can do with bubbles than just blow them. Things I was completely unaware of until Kurt and Iulia of Bubble Show For Adults Only did them last night. They blew bubbles inside of bubbles, around bubbles, connected the bubbles, held the bubbles, balanced them between two cups and sent them spinning, blew smoke-filled bubbles (my personal favourites) and popped them with their tongues, inhaling the smoke released.

They used large and small contraptions to create huge single bubbles and nets of bubbles, tiny bubbles and streams of bubbles. They blew bubbles onto each other’s bodies and made them move up and down their skin without popping. I was completely and utterly mesmerised. It felt like everything they were doing was defeating the laws of physics. It genuinely shouldn’t have been possible, and I was entranced and delighted by the artwork they created using the humble bubble.

Unfortunately, the bubble content of the show only made up about half of it, and the remaining time was spent performing strange sketches, seemingly about the repetitive nature of relationships, and then a very bizarre five minutes of Iulia wearing a Day of the Dead mask and swaying strangely. It felt like quite a lot of this content was just a time-filler, as they didn’t quite have enough bubble tricks to fill the hour, and it was bizarre and nowhere near as interesting as the bubbles. Had it been just the bubble tricks, it would have been brilliant, even as a shorter show.

Still, if you want to see incredible feats that will alter your perception of bubbles, this is the show to see.
