Zoe Scott: ‘My Cherie Amour’ is “one of my all-time favourite songs”

The latest artist to tackle the great Stevie Wonder is Zoe Scott, renowned recording artist and former rockstar-turned-jazz singer.

In her innovative debut album Shades of Love, Scott takes classic and well-loved songs from the last few decades and gives them a Bossa Nova makeover. The latest track to be released from this album is Stevie Wonder’s ‘My Cherie Amour’, which Scott describes as one of her “all-time favourite songs”.

In addition to this cover, she has spear-headed a fundraising project entitled #DancetheWaveofLove, which seeks to give out-of-work dancers employment during the pandemic. The video for ‘My Cherie Amour’ makes use of two professional dancers who have been affected by the loss of work - Flaminia Ianno and Andrea De Angelis. They dance together and walk through the streets of Rome, making for an intimate and emotive music video.

“Let’s create a Wave of Love the whole world can feel,” said Zoe. “I’ve always felt a deep soul connection to the art of dance, so I knew the video for Shades of Love’s lead single, ‘Quiet Nights,’ had to feature amazing dancers. With performers worldwide on pause, the plight of dancers in a global pandemic was never far from my mind while shooting it, so I was moved to use my team and album promotions to offer gratitude and direct support to professional dancers.”

This is an ongoing project which continues to provide new and hopeful art in the face of the pandemic, as well as helping out artists who need it during these tough times.

The choice to cover Stevie Wonder was a personal one for Scott. “I was with my producer, Mooie Canazio, at the Motown Grammy party when I heard Stevie Wonder sing ‘My Cherie Amour.’ I turned to Moogie and said, ‘if I can sing that song I’ll go to Rio.’ He smiled and said, ‘We are going!’”

"Stevie is one of my all time favorite artists. It’s his soul …. he’s pure love.”

This is a beautiful video and an excellent choice of song - a real classic, I feel like its a bit of a shame that her vocals have been doctored quite so much - I feel like her true voice isn't really being allowed to shine through because of how it's been produced.

I don't want to be overly harsh because she clearly has a lovely voice!
