Jugalbandi -A friendly competition

From January 22nd-February 3rd a lot of art events took place in Kateel ( A temple town in the state of Karnataka which is in India) The Jugalbandi by Indian percussion artists was my favorite event.

Jugalbandi -A friendly competition

Jugalbandi is a friendy competition in which many artists bring out each others expertise. In this Jugalbandi Mridangam was played by Sri Umayalpuram Sivaraman, Ghatam was played by  Sri Giridhar Udupar, Tabla was played by Sri Anindo Chatterjee and flute was played by Vidvan Ravichandra Kulu. The jugalbandi was entertaining and competitive I loved it because the sound from each instrument was unique and beautiful.

Sri Umayalpuram Shivaraman the Mridangam player was amazing each  beat was filled with so much energy and his skill was very visible, Sri Umayalpuram Shivaraman Is 85 years old but still he plays the Mridangam so well. An instrument is for life. His level of stamina was amazing. I was very amazed at his talent and I was hooked to the performance. The event was thoroughly planned and free to public and it was outdoors and very well organized. This was only one of the events that took place during the period of 13 days. I loved all the performances very much and if I had the chance, I would definitely go again. I definitely recommend attending the event.
