Rachael Sage gives us an insight into her private world in 'Bravery's On Fire'

It is so rare to get such an insight into the private workings and processes of a songwriter such as Rachael Sage. But then again, she has proven time and again that her inner strength lies in sharing her creativity with the world, be it in lyrics, her philanthropic efforts or a video such as the one for ‘Bravery’s On Fire’.

Already an incredibly personal song, ‘Bravery’s On Fire’ deals with the moments in which we don’t feel strong, don’t “see a superhero… in the mirror,”. It’s something of a confessional for Rachael, who has battled with health issues in the form of a cancer diagnosis and now makes a humbling statement about finding both beauty and strength in vulnerability.

Throughout the video, we see glimpses into Rachael’s process of crafting of a song - something she does on her own, from writing lyrics in the studio and putting the final touches to the master mix, to performing the song in an emotionally-charged solo performance outside at night, as her piano burns in the background. 'Process' is a good way of looking at this video, as it maps onto the process felt for survivors of cancer - from diagnosis to recovery, emotionally it truly is a process.

What we must take away from this cathartic and confessional song, however, is the importance of gratitude. Every day we must wake up with gratitude to be alive and in this world, we must remember that there is bravery in vulnerability and that supporting each other through trying times is the only way to make it through.

Beautiful, poignant and full of support for anyone who is struggling, ‘Bravery’s On Fire’ is a song and video which must be seen and heard to be believed. Watch it here:
