President Street wow at The Bedford this Christmas with a beautiful acoustic set

Gracing the Bedford’s intimate performance space last week was the fabulous pop-fusion band President Street, all the way from Melbourne, with their unique brand of hook-filled melodies translated into a beautiful acoustic set.

The set is kicked off with track ‘Forward Stride’, the first of many syrupy-sweet ballads led by Ruby’s stunning vocals. Accompaniment is provided by Pete and Olly on acoustic guitars, filling out the room with their sound. Used to hearing these songs with all the impressive production found on their studio releases, it is a welcome change to experience these songs organically in their rawest form.

Next track, ‘For J’ is a real standout of the set. Described by Ruby as dedicated to that person who has been given a bad deal in life “but still has a sunny disposition”, ‘For J’ is something of a tear-jerker, particularly in this acoustic and live setting. It again shows off how much of a talent Ruby really is, with her voice sounding strong and confident in the space.

They play new single ‘I Found Me’ before they go, which makes use of Pete’s delightfully impromptu handclaps, bringing a new dynamic to this already spectacular set. The new single goes down well, as it has already begun to get some airplay over here and has reached an impressive number 5 on the UK Club Commercial Pop Charts.

Closing off the set with fan favourite ‘Yeah I Know’, President Street have cemented their place not only as a band capable of reaching the top five in the Club charts, but also as a band who can hold their own without the bells and whistles, with just a couple of guitars and Ruby’s voice - and are equally breathtaking in both scenarios.
