Direct Art Action - Findlay Gardner

Local gallery in Sutton Coldfield

Direct Art Action - Findlay Gardner

We visited Direct Art Action in Sutton Coldfield on Thursday 7th November 2019. We had a look around the art gallery and took individual photos of the art that we liked we then chose two pieces. One was art and one photography and analysed them we were able to sit at table and worked through the analysis. These were by James Ware and Fran Vere who are local artists and used to teach at our school. Then we interviewed the owner and asked about his career.

The art forms that were involved are 3D arts, drawing and edited photo, painting, sculpture, etc. I’ve never seen anything like this before as I haven’t been to a gallery before. I thought that the physical objects such as fridge and the broken bed as a form of art where surprising as I have never seen anything like that before as I thought it wasn’t a form of art.

It was free so it’s better toaccess for the public to see a small part of the art world and to see all thedifferent types of art. It was a good place for local artists to show theirwork and maybe sell it as you could by copies of some of them in the shop.

I didn’t like the way how theart work was presented and some of it was quite spread out. The owner did saythey were adding more in so it would be even more full soon. I didn’t like howcold it was in the art gallery.

I have learnt that any typeof object can be a form of art even things like a fridge and it’s up to theartist what they show. I also learnt that some art I like and some art to mehas no meaning. I think it’s better when the artist tells you about their workso you can understand why they did it or if there is a meaning.
