This is a production presented in the round, and done very well. The simple staging portrayed by the actors engaged all four sides very well, using both levels and dance in a dynamic way.
The use of songs at various points added a lovely dynamic to the show, and the live soundscape was a wonderful touch that really made the vibe of the show come together. This was a show full of comic timing and lines to make you chuckle.
They used not only the words, but the oft mischievous spirit of Shakespearean work to present a number of the more raunchy scenes from several plays. They did this tastefully and quite cleverly that it didn’t seem to shock some of the younger audience members, although you do need an appreciation of Shakespeare’s work to not see it as just gratuitous performance.
The vocal tones performed live as an underscore for sections of the show continued throughout to add a real new layer to the performance, the superb timing amongst the actors and the sharp movement direction helped to showcase the hard work and professionalism of this young company.
The lines were cleverly entwined in the narrative of the piece and the joyous ending with accompanying humorous song ensured the audience left with a smile and commenting that it was a good show.
This makes for an excellent mid-afternoon treat, at only 35 minutes long it’s easily digestible and gives you a new take on some classic text.
