On Thu 21st June 2018, I went to The Cambridge Junction with my dad to watch Ralph McTell and Wizz Jones in concert.
After Ralph and Wizz produced their first album together in 2016, they decided to do this tour to celebrate their friendship.Ralph and Wizz played some songs they had composed together. Ralph played some of his own songs solo and Wizz also did the same. Wizz’s fingerpicking was amazing. I have learnt that 2 famous musicians could make a successful album together as a team after having separate successful solo careers.
I wasn’t expecting to ever see Ralph McTell again, as last year he visited Cambridge but I had to perform in a school recital on the very same evening at the same time! I have dreamt about meeting Ralph for a long time and I thought it was impossible. I was amazed that my impossible dream came true.
I really liked Ralphs song ‘From Clare to Here’ I was inspired by is fingerpicking on “Hands of Joseph”. I always thought it was a religious song about St Joseph. But it turned out to be about a man called Joseph who played guitar at his church in an expert fingerpicking style. Ralph did not play my absolute favourite song “Streets of London” unfortunately, but I forgave him for that!
I was annoyed at the time at having to wait in a very long queue to meet Ralph after the concert. When I got to the front of the queue eventually, I was so caught up in the moment at meeting my hero that I omitted to take a photograph unfortunately. I started listening to more of have been Ralph’s music since the concert and even all his non-mainstream songs. I can’t wait till Ralph goes on tour again so I can see him again. I would award this concert a 5 star rating.
Unfortunately I missed the concert, but now I've read this very informative review I feel as though I actually went!
