La Minima – Quiénes at UKYA City Takeover

A three man dance at the old market square. La minima is a vibrant, delicate performance to watch.

La Minima – Quiénes at UKYA City Takeover

We entered the UK Young Artists City Takeover in Nottingham on an early Saturday evening in the Old Market Square. With two days already under their belt, there is plenty of opportunity to see some more goings on in the next four days.

It was a slow starter but a steady crowd built (and stayed) to watch the performance which lasted around 20 minutes. The three males moved like a walking gargoyle across the open arena. Subtle movements here and there while gentle interactions with an intrigued audience. If you listened closely you could hear ethereal music being the perfect backdrop to the chase that ensued between each dancer.

Upon discovering ‘a la mínima’ means ‘at the drop of the hat’ it was instantly clear a follow my lead approach was the main offering. There was plenty of angst but bound by the freedom to be followed and to be the follower. Towards the end, the sounds change to 50s rockabilly and final coming together to then be pushed onto their backs in disbelief but slightly agreeable gladness.
