On 15th of April I attended an exhibition of local artists at an Arts Handcrafted Fair
I chose to attend this fair to give me ideas and inspiration for my Silver Arts Award which I have chosen to complete in mosaics.
Some of the artists in the exhibition were:
Barbara Hibbart - glass jewellery
Transfunk Furniture -upcycled furniture and household items
Barry West - mouth painter
Meikie Knappert - silk painting and product design
Carina Stevenson - Leaded glass panels
And many others
I saw:
Oil, pastel, silk and acrylic paintings
Sculptures in bronze, ceramic and glass
Hand Made glass and gemstone jewellery
Pottery
Cardboard lampshades
Upcycled furniture
I liked the way they had laid out the exhibition because they had grouped similar art forms together in a specific place. They had placed the glass exhibits by various natural and artificial lighting to maximise the colours.
I loved the silk paintings because they used bold colours to help define shapes. The glass panels were brightly coloured and I liked the mixture of random shapes and defined scenes.
I found the glass jewellery fascinating because there was no limit on the shapes you could use to create a defined piece. It was a bit like a tiny mosaic!
From this exhibition I learned that if you are creating a scene you can use a broad range of colours to depict one object. For example a sky can be many shades including purple, red, blue. I also saw many things that will help be make my designs stand out from their background colours.
I really enjoyed this exhibition. I liked seeing so many different art forms in one place and how no two pieces were the same. It was really colourful and it was laid out in a way that you couldn’t tell what was around the next corner!
I’m hoping this becomes an annual event. The setting was lovely and it was great to see the extraordinary talents of local artists!
Where was the exhibition - sounds really very good. Glad you enjoyed it and found some inspiration. I hope the mosaic works out well for you - good to see you doing your research and taking in other works to inform your own.
