On the 23rd August 2017, I went to see Kinky Boots, a musical, in the West End. Kinky Boots follows the inspiring story about Charlie Price who, with the help of his unlikely friend Lola, turns a failing shoe factory in Northampton into a glamorous new line, selling high heels designed to support the weight of a fully grown man. We see how Lola and his 'Angels' overcome the prejudices of the traditional crew, at the sight of men in dresses and heels.
I really enjoyed the musical. The atmosphere changed between upbeat, sentimental and exciting and kept a fast-flowing relevant theme; there was not a dull moment. Though the set and costumes were amazing to look at, the thing that I enjoyed most was the music. The songs were catchy and relevant, and I could hardly believe that it was all live. I would definitely recommend Kinky Boots to anyone, and would describe it as an upbeat and feel-good performance. It teaches an important lesson showing the importance of acceptance. It also shows unfairness of gender stereotypes, and focuses on different attitudes towards gender illusion. It is a very modern theme, and I look forward to seeing more shows like it come to theatre in the West End!
This looks like a amazing form of entertainment :D
