My self portrait inspired by David Hockney

I was Inspired by David Hockney and Dawn Mococia.

I did a mixed media portrait

My self portrait inspired by David Hockney

Following a trip to the Ferrer’s Centre (Staunton Harold, Leicestershire), I was inspired by some of the artwork I saw in the Ferrer’s Gallery to create a mixed media piece of art.

I decided to try to blend my love of both photography and watercolour. Not a natural blend, this presented several challenges.

Firstly, It Was trial and error to find how much I could actually put on the paper without it looking to plain but not to busy.

Secondly, I struggled to find colours that compliment each other and don't look a mess, I didn't fully succeed but it looked better than it did before I reset it.

Also I printed of lots of photos but only found a couple of them useful as I found myself trying  to get as many photos as possible but I would make it look to busy so removed most of them.

I tried smaller copies so I could see the colour combination and what compliments what and where I should put each colour and how much of it. All together I made about 4 different pieces and chose the one I liked best.

I like my final piece but there is more than one thing that I would change if I did It again

I am unhappy with the photos I chose to use and I would chose differently but overall it turned out better than i had hoped so I am happy with my work.

This is very interesting, why did you choose watercolour? That was an unusual choice with photographs!

My inspiration was David Hockney and he often did self portraits using photography, So i decided to do a self portrait of myself, but of my personality a bedroom style and my different hobbies.
I used photography, watercolour painting, collage and scrap booking techniques all in one piece of art.

I was creating a self portrait of my personality so I took photos of items in my room so it could be a part of my self portrait.

No, its Not just watercolours, i wanted to add some of my own skills to the piece and make it my own, I wanted to make it a mixed media piece with as many different medias as possible. So yes, lots of mixed media.
