Matt Forde: A Show Hastily Rewritten in Light of Recent Events – Again!

For a show hastily re-written, it demonstrated a lot of polish. It also covers pretty much everything you would expect, based on recent events. Brexit? Tick. General Election? Tick. Trump? Tick. A Conservative party being heartless and floundering, and an opposition failing to scrutinise and not being scrutinised hard enough. It's all here, and it's all exceptionally funny.

Matt Forde, if you don't know, is a comedian, broadcaster and podcaster. He has been coming to the Fringe for a number of years, and most recently was anchor of Dave's Unspun with Matt Forde.

Over the course of an hour Matt Forde mocks and tears apart essentially everything political, and what is most tragic about the show is just how much content there is. How is it that we are so far up the creek politically and societally? Forde doesn't answer that question explicitly, but he certainly attributes at least part of it down to anger by the ignored classes by liberals, and he is right.

While ensuring that everything got the scathing ridicule and criticism it deserved, Forde never lingered on anything long enough for it to become boring, and everything he said was laced with comedic timing and genius. Those who are triggered by anything remotely negative regarding Jeremy Corbyn are probably going to hate the show, but Forde has the acumen to be critical of both sides of the political spectrum, as both sides are appallingly crap currently.

One thing I never realised about Matt Forde is just how good his accents and impressions are. In the obligatory Trump section, his impression was scarily on point - with facial animations and voice perfectly capturing the petulant representative of the free world. Boris Johnson was another particularly accurately represented figure.

If you are remotely interested in politics, and especially if you aren't, it would be remiss to not go see this show. It demonstrates that you can talk about politics without getting aggressive or shutting down the debate - and, when you take a step back, everyone is better for it. Forde has managed to do the impossible, and make our political situation appear not as hopeless.

Politics is doing nothing but dominate our everyday lives at the moment. People are getting sick of it, and therefore we need guys like Matt Forde to help us through our insanity!
