10 Steps to Happiness

A one-woman show that did not disappoint.

10 Steps to Happiness

This show was set in The Warren, where I started my Brighton Fringe experience, and it felt great going back there again.

Having the show located in Studio 3 was a bit confusing, but I eventually found it - the Studio turned out to be a shipping container...which was interesting.

While standing in line I received a purple felt tip pen, which puzzled me at first but when I entered the studio, it made sense. As soon as I sat down, I was asked to fill in a card about something that makes me happy - which was then handed over to a lady. These were to be referred to later on.

According to the show (and the brochure), the '10 Steps to Happiness' are as follows:

  1. Figure out what's wrong.
  2. It's difficult to say goodbye.
  3. Don't let negative thoughts ruin your day.
  4. Stretch, drink water, breathe deeply.
  5. Don't be molded by past experiences.
  6. There's more to life than happiness-interests.
  7. Be grateful.
  8. Be vulnerable.
  9. People's opinions should not matter.
  10. Life's not easy.

The performer worked through each of these steps, incorporating comedy, audience participation, unexpected singing and even an interpretive dance.

All of this stitched together perfectly, and led us to the final conclusion. To have happier life you need to just live as best you can, make the most of a given situation, and look after yourself. The cards that we were asked to fill out at the start were then read out - mine included - however, some of them were...'interesting', to say the least.

Overall, it was a hilarious show to watch and I recommend it to those who wish to learn the steps and embrace them.
