Photography Exhibition Review

What was the title of the exhibition/show?

Creativity

Why did you choose to attend this exhibition/show?

It was nearby to where I live and it sounded interesting.

Who were the artists and what do they create?

Some of the artists were: Tony Sellen - "Enterprise" monochrome of very symmetrical modern architecture; I like his use of light and contrast.

Pamela Aminou - "Perspective V1" also monochrome, but of large area of city scape; I like the textures in the sky created by the light and shade.

Fraser Musson - 2The Eye of the Storm" - natural landscape in colour. The subject matter is very dramatic, being taken from the top of a peak, with foreboding clouds in the background. I love that for me, it captures a feeling of freedom and being windswept; I can imagine standing at the top with a lovely sense of abandon.

What did you see?

Lots of different types of photos, some black and white, some brightly coloured and some completely unintelligible.

What were your first impressions?

At first, I thought that all the photos were very alike. Most were brightly coloured and busy, but when I looked closer, I saw that there were lots of very different styles.

Did you find anything particularly interesting to your personally?

I think the way they had put the photos in an industrial, dusty, concrete room was a really interesting choice. You could really focus on the photos because the background was so dull and it was also a lovely contrast with the industrial feeling which made the photos more striking.

What did you learn?

One thing I learnt was that you really don't need a good camera to take good photographs, as some were taken by IPhones, you just have to capture the right moment. I also learnt that even a picture that has been so heavily edited, you can't tell what the the initial picture was of, as long as it was once a photo, it is still classed as a photograph.

Did you enjoy the experience overall? Why?

I did enjoy the experience because it was interesting to see how each photographer had a unique style and seemed to use roughly the same effects for each of his or her photos.

Did it make you think about any art form differently?

Not really, but after seeing the way some of the photos had been edited, I now know that I can be more free and creative if I'm editing a photo, and it will still be classed as a photograph.
