Les Miserables, Queen's Theatre

A review of Les Miserables in Queen's Theatre in London.

Les Miserables, Queen's Theatre

On March 18th and March 29th 2017, I went to see Les Miserables once with family and once with my school's cast. It was simply amazing. It amazed me by how professional the cast were. On one of the nights there was possibly two tiny altercations (which were not clear to the audience, only those who payed close attention to those particular moments and characters) it amazed me how the cast dealt with these altercations.

I became obsessed by the Les Miserables franchise ever since i watched the film. The show defied all expectations and was extraordinary. The set was magnificent and the atmosphere created by the music, cast and scenery was unbelievable. The music was mesmerising. Tissues were definitely a necessity as it is a tear jerker. It is without a doubt the best musical i have seen! Even though, it is quite a long performance it does not feel it as every moment is enjoyable. The performance is around about three hours however you are left wanting even more.

It created a clear picture of how i am going to portray my character (Fantine) in my school's production of Les Miserables. The set was literally one of a kind, with its original layout which created a fast way of changing props and created the feeling of travelling throughout the musical.

However, this is a performance where it does matter where you sit. The first time i watched the show i sat at the very top which had a good view but the very front of the stage was cut off (only slightly) and when characters stood on top of the huge sets i could only see their legs. Although this was only at certain moments which were not very long. The second time i watched the show i sat in the stalls at the back. This was definitely the worst view out of the two. When the characters stood at the top of these huge sets i saw even less and had to constantly slide down my seat to even see legs! This was only a problem in the second half which is my favourite half unfortunately. If i was to ever go again i would aim to either sit in the middle layer or top; not the stalls.
