In the summer of 2015 I went to the National Portrait Gallery in London. I mostly went to see the exhibition put on there by my aunt and her friend, but I also saw the BP Portrait Award, an exhibition about Audrey Hepburn and the usual collection housed there. In the permanent collection I liked the most modern best, because I like the variety of styles used. I found that the older paintings mostly all had the same style if they were painted in the same sort of time period, which contrasted with how the modern paintings were all different, which I thought was very interesting. All the paintings had a very varied art style, and as I said before, you could see it change over the ages. I also liked how all the portraits were made with different materials and different kinds of artwork. It made me think of different ideas about how to use them as inspiration for my artwork.I also thought the exhibition about Audrey Hepburn, which was a selection of photographs, was beautiful and had some lovely photos. I thought it was really interesting because it showed how art didn't have to be drawings or paintings.
I really liked the National Portrait gallery because I have never seen a really large collection like it, condensed into one space, especially of just one thing, like portraits. I would thoroughly recommend the NPG, because I think that it is very interesting, has some beautiful pictures and has a huge variety of types and styles, from classic to contemporary.
Very interesting read :)
