Brighton Fashion Week

My night at a catwalk show.

Brighton Fashion Week

During Brighton Fashion Week (which hosted a variety of events), I chose to attend the Zeitgeist Emerging Talent Catwalk Show on October 16th at All Saints Church in Hove. I found out about the event on the website for Brighton Fashion Week as I had been very keen to go to one of their annual shows. After reading about the Zeitgeist show on their website, I knew it was the one for me as ethical clothing has always been something that I am passionate about and the Zeitgeist catwalk showcases designers who use ethical practices within their work - I immediately booked the tickets online.

The event started at around 8:30pm and when I arrived at All Saints Church there was a very long queue of people waiting to get in. I was asked for my ticket and given a wristband before being allowed inside. Upon entering the church, I was very impressed with the lighting effects that they had used to decorate - this gave the church a colourful contemporary feel which added to the buzz and excitement of my very first catwalk show. I took my seat, and within a few minutes it began.

The models walked down the catwalk in orderly succession, with each model posing for the cameras at the end of the runway.

The collections by the designers were all very striking and unique - this made a very visually appealing show. The designs I particularly liked were by a young designer named Isaac Raymond. His collection was based on darkness through light and overcoming mental illness. Isaac's work really stood out from the others with his use of exaggerated shoulders and some bold colours. However, my favourite garment of his was neither boldly coloured or had oversized shoulders. It instead took the form of a crinoline shaped white see-through gown.

I left the show having learnt that ethical and Fair Trade design doesn't mean dull and boring. It can be outrageous, fun, exciting and innovative.

The show was a one-off, however I would have definitely recommended it to others had it been repeated.
