Tiff Stevenson: Seven

A lacklustre performance that could have worked so well

Tiff Stevenson: Seven

This is the seventh solo Fringe show that Tiff Stevenson has undertaken, and straight off the bat she starts by making a 7/7 joke, and how terror attacks are used for feats of relationship one-upmanship.

Depending on your sense of humour, that will set the mood for the rest of the show for you. I was personally in a difficult position, because while that style of humour is very in line with my tastes, the delivery of the jokes was so flat and so lifeless I barely even registered the twitch of a smile.

This, sadly, was how the rest of the show went. There was plenty of content which should have elicited a far bigger response, but Stevenson barely seemed invested in the jokes herself. It didn't really feel that the show got started.

One big area of conversation for Stevenson was feminism, and the quest for gender equality. This was her stronger material, and perhaps one of the few times where she seemed remotely interested about being on stage. It did become quite scathing at times, although given the legitimately unbalanced state of society, and the fact she receives unsolicited dick pics (when are they solicited?!) this is perhaps completely valid!

This was a show with so much promise and potential, let down by lacklustre execution and apathetic delivery.
