Royal Vauxhall

Who would've thought a musical comedy about the 1980s could be so insightful?

Royal Vauxhall

Did Princess Diana, Freddie Mercury, and Kenny Everett go out clubbing together? Apparently so in this musical comedy about the icons of the 1980s.

Royal Vauxhall explores the fictional versions of the celebrities as they all decide to go out clubbing at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern together for a sliver of happiness, and learning something new about themselves in the process before their lives are tragically cut short in the upcoming years.

As I said, the performance was surprisingly insightful, and it answers the question of what they would've truly been like behind the cameras and the press at the time...it's rather sad now that I think about it.

Although the songs were bland and lacked memorability, it was still a very well-written performance, and presents the struggles of being a homosexual celebrity in the bleak 1980s perfectly. In fact, I recommend this little piece of theatre to anybody coming to terms with their own orientation, and I hope it inspires them.
