...This was almost like a normal lesson! The instructor would Show the audience what type of stretches and warm-ups they would do on a normal day and explain why ballet dancers need a certain strength in a certain position. Nearer to the end, the dancers showed as the ending of the performance Swan Lake-that they are currently rehearsing. The teacher would talk through dance moves that symbolise a feeling and tell us the story behind that part of the play. So, we got a running commentary along the way. Before we all left, the dancers came and sat down on the stage in front of us so that the audience could ask them questions. I found out that a life of a dancer is no picnic. Most of the dancers in that company started ballet when they were around 3 years old and they knew that they wanted to become professional at the ages of 9 or 10. Those dancers have to practise for 6 hours 6 times a week to reach the level that they are at now- so it shows that it takes a lot of dedication. It was interesting to know that the dancers came from a very mixed variety of countries including: Italy, Spain, Russia and Japan (only one was from England). Overall, I think this experience was very good as I got to understand what really happens in lessons and I learnt more about the actual dancers as well.
An Audience with Vienna Festival
I went to see a ballet performance in Camberley Theatre on Friday the 3rd of June. This was not an ordinary performance where the dancers just dance and act for us...
