Ed Sheerans Multiply Concert

A review of Ed Sheerans Multiply (x) Concert

In October 2014 I went to Ed Sheeran's concert in Birmingham. He played a 90 minute set of his most recent songs along with a few of his older ones. I thought his performance was amazing because not only did he manage to captivate the audience with just himself and a guitar but he made all of his music on stage using a loop pedal. It was really interesting to see how he built up and created his music right there on stage by making background beat boxing noises as well as harmonising with himself and repeating tunes on a loop. It seemed that the loop pedal gave him more freedom to do what he liked with his music and experiment. At times you could see he was unhappy with a beat he created so tried again until he got it right. This built up an atmosphere of anticipation whilst you waited to hear the lyrics to the song and also allowed him to play his songs differently to how they are recorded on his album. During the concert he did a few unexpected mashups in the middle of songs that got the crowd even more involved and excited as it mixed things up a bit. For example he added various lyrics and parts of different songs in to his song 'You Need Me, I Don't Need You'. It was amazing to see how quiet the audience got when he played his softer songs compared to how loud and happy they were to sing along to his more upbeat songs. It showed that he really had a hold of the audience with his music and I enjoyed the performance thoroughly.
