"Children" is an interesting documentary

"Children" is a short documentary directed by Lora Arkhypenko and is a follow up to a previous documentary she made called "Women." I haven't seen the previous documentary and it unfortunately isn't publicly available yet, but both documentaries are about Ukrainian refugees living in Shropshire. The director of these films is a Ukrainian refugee herself, so I can tell these films are personal for her. The one I'm reviewing here gives an update on how the women from the previous documentary have adapted to living over here, and also focuses on their children and how they feel about living here. The adult refugees shown here were all women, although one of the children was a boy. After the screening, the director was asked about this and she said that the men weren't allowed the emigrate.

I thought this documentary was very interesting and well made. I'm glad to see that the families featured in this documentary seemed to be doing well. Although some of the people interviewed said they may move back to Ukraine one day as some of them said they still feel more Ukrainian than British. I think the young boy in the documentary said that he doesn't really speak English, but has still been able to get along with other kids his age. I thought that was nice to hear. I hope these documentaries get shown in Ukraine at some point so that the relatives of those featured can see the films and see how their relatives have been doing over here. I also recognised a lot of the locations shown throughout the film which was nice. I hope more people get to see it and I would recommend this if you get the chance. I'd also be interested in seeing the previous documentary "Women" if that becomes available to the public again.
