On Saturday 25th January 2025, myself and the other Mansfield reviews had our final session. We went to Mansfield Museum for this, where we met film maker Idriss. Idriss is a professional film maker who films and edits short videos. He taught us about what to include in videos, and how to get information across to the viewer effectively. We practised this by going into the museum, picking something to talk about and then presenting it to him and the group, where we reviewed valuable feedback.
Idriss showed us his equipment which included cameras, tripods, lighting and microphones. My sister and I were particularly interested in his ‘gimbal’ which is a device which helps keep your camera steady and straight whilst filming. Idriss let us have an explore of his equipment and he talked us through everything. My sister and I had a go at filming with his cameras. He instructed us to film a certain item in the museum, and to get as many different angles and shots as possible. Whilst we were doing this, the other two Mansfield reviewers did a voiceover narration for the clips using Idriss’ microphones.
After this, it was time to edit the clips together and add the narration. Idriss showed us the software he uses and gave us a quick tutorial. After this, my sister edited the video together, ensuring that the clips matched the narration.
I’d like to thank Idriss for the workshop he provided for us; the information is really valuable and I throughly enjoyed it.
