Migration is a family friendly film that follows a family of ducks as they embark on their first migration- a journey to Jamaica. On this adventure they discover friends and foes, places of wonder and curiosity, and most importantly they learn to come together as a family.

I watched the film at Dundee Cineworld at 1000 on the 15th of November, it was an enjoyable experience of 1 hour and 20 minutes. I found that the younger people in the audience laughed at the movie more than that of an older watcher. This shows how the movie’s main demographic was that of a young child, which can be shown from the jokes and gags, but this doesn’t mean it doesn’t have qualities that would be humours to an adult.

The story starts with a glimpse into the life of our main characters, showing us how they fear almost everything. Or more specifically, the father duck. As he tries to protect his family. But through the fear of losing them, he decides to show his family an adventure, as they embark on a migration to Jamaica, as well as meeting other kids, like pidgins, parrots and other ducks. They also have run-ins, killer chefs and crazy herons.

The movie is animated entirely 3D and it was smooth and nice to look at. The stylized, sometimes goofy animation reflected the crazy and action packed story. It also impacted the humour as well as it exaggerated and elevated it, to add impact and more comedic value. I found the shading and texturing to be very clean and impressive as well.

We follow a family of ducks. Mack Mallard played by Kumali Nanjima, Pam Mallard played by Elizabeth Banks and the children. Gwen Mallard and Dax Mallard, played by Tresi Gazal and Casper Jennings. To top that off you have the old but wild Uncle Dan, played by Danny Devito. The family of ducks are a thrill to watch and really make the movie.

I liked and enjoyed the familys banter and dynamics and I liked their progression as the story moved on. I also was deeply moved by the themes of family, adventure and love. I found Gwen to be quite annoying sometimes as her high pitched voice got to me. Another thing that was bothering me was the artistic choice in the movie, the 3D style was quite generic I think it would have benefited from a more stylistic or different style, even if it would be risky.

The progression of the Father duck in the film is a major part as it shows him conquering his fears of the world and becoming a better father to his children and a better husband. This could resonate with a lot of people and on top of that it is very nice to see his change in mind set throughout the film

Overall I had a good time with this movie, it was a fun and hilarious experience. Universal pictures has done a very good job creating an enjoyable, animated family film. I give it a 4/5 rating.
