In this post i wanted to share some of my experiences of the Glastonbury festival of contemporary preforming arts 2024!
I wasn’t sure how much I would enjoy the festival at first as I am not a fan of large crowds but it didn’t bother me at all when I was there.
We were unsure whether there would be anyone good playing when we confirmed our tickets, as the list of musicians had not been released, though there's always so much more you can do at Glastonbury.
We did miss a few acts (to my sisters annoyance) but we saw nearly every one we wanted to see and more as we walked around the stages. I enjoyed a lot off the less well known musicians, like the brass ska band we saw on a bandstand that comprised of a violinist a guitarist and much more, recreating famous music pieces!
I also liked the more cultural music that danced around the streets, with musicians and colourful dancers!
I liked the different styles of music you would see on the smaller stages and I also enjoyed trying all the different food.
My parents were part of the recycling crew so we all got to go for FREE! We were also in a different campsite called toms field especially assigned for recycling workers (this also meant that it was the cleanest place on the site, as everyone was so used to litter picking, and didn’t want to drop any more!)
We also had a special workers canteen. My parents got given two meal tokens each after their work was finished, for the two remaining meals! My mum brought her own food so most of our meals where free as well.
My favourite performance I saw was Coldplay who were headlining. I am not the biggest Coldplay fan but I really enjoyed the show. There were fireworks, a laser light show and they gave everyone light up wristbands (which they controlled to change colour and light up on certain songs) so we could wave them in time. I bet it looked really good on the filming cameras.
It was funny when the lead singer sang a few lines about the audience members! They where definitely my favourite performance!
We also saw most of Dua Lipa on the pyramid stage. She had a lot off dance choreography and fireworks (also a headliner). Some of Kenya Grace on the Woodsies stage. She did a bit off a DJ set performance and had some cool background screen effects. I didn’t see much of herself though as we were right in the crowd and tall people always stand in front of you!
We saw Avril Lavigne on the "other stage" (though many believed she should have been on the pyramid stage due to the size of her crowd). We where there half an hour early as we wanted to get a good spot to see the stage!
We also saw SZA in passing and her crowd was tiny! So tiny we could have made it to the front of the crowd if we'd wanted to.
We also saw a few more songs of some others I didn’t know (apparently Bob Vylan rode on the crowd during his set!)
All in all i had the best time and i can't wait to go again!
It sounds like you had a Great time at the festival.
I love the sound of the spotless camp site for the recycling crew!
I'm also not a fan of busy crowds but if you coped with it maybe I should give it a go as well.
Thanks for the review.
