Exhibition Review: STREET ART FESTIVAL 2024

Centered on 'Street Art,' this exhibition at Surface Gallery presents some of today’s finest local talent, with each piece offering a deeper meaning

The Nottingham Street Art Festival 2024 has returned, bringing with it the most anarchic show in town. It is located in Surface Gallery from July 19 to August 10, 2024, open from Tuesday to Saturday.

Upon entering the gallery, I was greeted by the manager, who mentioned that the exhibition features 220 pieces by 52 artists, including around 22 submissions from Stephenson Studio School. These submissions support a small charity, and there's also a donation box where visitors can contribute a minimum of 5 pounds.

The exhibition space is a large square area with art displayed on the walls up to the ceiling, allowing me and other visitors to move freely around the gallery. The setup includes works by some of Nottingham’s finest street artists, with each display conveying a deep message. Some artworks focus on political themes, such as Trump’s quotes and Putin’s threats. In the center of the exhibition is a large "Free Palestine" wall surrounded by several related artworks. There are also displays on stands placed near the ground, including an artifact - a book titled "The Artist's Handbook" pierced by an iron rod with the quote "Art has no rules."

One of the standout aspects of this art festival is its support for local artists by providing a platform to showcase and sell their work. This exhibition also offers a unique opportunity to pick up some terrific art at affordable prices.

Rating: 4/5

In conclusion, the Nottingham Street Art Festival 2024 is a must-visit for anyone interested in contemporary street art. The combination of stunning visual art and a community atmosphere makes this event a highlight of the summer.
