The Hive is a wonderful venue, I felt really at ease and welcomed. I came along to watch a performance in the theatre, which was part of an SYT (Shrewsbury Youth Theatre) festival event. Looking around the Hive before the show started, I loved seeing all the artwork which was displayed on the walls in the gallery and the brilliant decorated piano in the corner seating area is a lovely touch. It was so vibrant and great to hear another student play the piano which brought the building to life as we all eagerly awaited the show to begin!
The play ‘Journey to the center of new Milton Keynes’ starts with a group of young men who want a new life in a different part of America, aka new Milton Keynes! Although happy to depart, they all decide to get a drink together from the local bar first before setting off on their long journey. The bartender (who was also very drunk!), gave them all drinks but then told them to clear off as they had drunk too much. Arguing and mild fighting took place but then suddenly, everyone stopped as they spotted an upside-down pineapple vehicle. The bartender said they could have the vehicle for $15, as they began to rapidly search through their pockets for an alternative payment; giving the bartender a piece of string, a button and some other random items before he collapsed onto the floor falling asleep in a drunken state. As the bartender lay there unconscious, the group decided to steal the vehicle, however the bartender comes round and sneaks inside the back of the vehicle before anyone sees him, off they go in search of their new Milton Keynes destination. On their onward journey, they have other twists and turns along the way including another bar fight (which the bartender joins in!), running from the police after they hit a mail man and even had a western shootout with a bandit. In the end, they finally found their new place, they could settle and call home, their new Milton Keynes home.
A great performance by everyone and I was thrilled I got to watch this one-of-a-kind comedy play.
