A review of the Carnatic vocal performance by Sri Unni Krishnan at the bhavan.

Carnatic Vocal performance by Sri Unni Krishnan

On 26th march I attended a Carnatic Vocal performance by Sri Unnikrishnan at the Bharati Vidya Bhavan, the school for Indian arts located in London. Sri Unni Krishnan is an Indian Carnatic vocalist who has been singing since the age of 12. He is the first male playback singer to be awarded the national award for a Tamil song.

The instruments played along side Sri Unni Krishnan complimented his voice perfectly and made every swara much more pleasing and interesting to hear.

Many songs were sung throughout the concert in various ragas and talas such as Pibere Ramarasam in raga Ahir or Gajananayutham in raga Chakravaaga which was my Favourite song because it had a great usage of gamakas and was very pleasant to hear.

Each Swara that was sung was filled with devotion and love. The bhavan is a school for Indian arts in London. they teach many instruments such as Indian violin or the mridangam which is an Indian drum. The atmosphere in the bhavan was amazing and helped set a great mood for the audience when watching the performance.

At the end of the concert, I stayed behind with many others to seek the blessing if Sri. Unnikrishnan aswell as the other instrument players which consisted of my violin teacher Sri BaluRaguraman Sir. The performers were very nice and motivational as they inspired me to study harder in the world of the Carnatic arts.
