The Bristol-based trio, formed back in 2019, gained recognition with the release of their debut single, ‘I Wanna Steal Your Car’. Formed by Oli Rainsford (bass and vocals), Dan Smith (guitar) and Harry Pritchard (drums), the band embarked on a very successful first UK tour in 2019.
In 2020, the group worked with Josh Gallop at Bath’s Studio 2 to develop their debut EP, ‘No Vacancy Hotel’, released in February 2022. Following the success of their debut EP, which reached over 150,000 streams and was supported by the critics of HardBeat Magazine and Ones to Watch (amongst others), Krooked Tongue is releasing the second single from their upcoming EP, set to release later this year.
A song about finding your inner animal and setting it free, 'Velociraptor' is a stirring track. With a guitar that resembles ‘AM’ Arctic Monkeys and slightly to The Strokes, it features a very powerful sound, backed up by a dynamic bassline and fierce lyrics. As the song moves forward, the bridge creates great expectations about what’s to come, and the chorus does not fail to fulfil them. With a change of tempo, accompaniment and a new and catchy voice line, the chorus creates the perfect contrast with everything we’ve heard before, keeping the song’s wild essence. Later on, a brief but effective unaccompanied voice line is followed by a high-powered drop to the chorus, giving the song just the end that it needs.
'Velociraptor' places itself amongst Krooked Tongue’s previous successes like ‘Girls with Knives’, ‘Lupines’, and ‘Vampyre’, and becomes a statement of the band’s signature sound within the Alternative and Indie Rock spectre.
Velociraptor will be available on all streaming platforms on February 24th.
