Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at Lichfield Garrick

The fairest entertainment of them all... what a night at this year’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs press night at The Lichfield Garrick.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at Lichfield Garrick

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at The Lichfield Garrick stars Lichfield favourite Sam Rabone as Nurse Nellie alongside Brian Wheeler, Dean Whatton, George Akid, Maria Conneely, and a very special Magic Mirror appearance from Michael Palin.

Sam Rabone who played Nurse Nellie and also directed this year’s pantomime was at the forefront of this spectacular production. His "Hello Lichfield" catchphrase is well known with this being his first one-liner when making his entrance on stage.

Nurse Nellie is featured throughout the show, mostly in the polished comedy routines alongside other characters like Snow White and Herman the Henchman. They had the ability to entertain the whole auditorium with lots of audience interaction and local references - this pantomime felt special for Lichfield.

The show itself features appropriate actors to play the seven dwarfs and made such a positive difference to the production. Especially when compared to pantomimes of the same title that don’t go with this casting choice. The audience was very excited when they first made an appearance and the magnificent seven had their time to shine. Their individual personalities came to life, all having amazing characterisation. I also liked the connection the dwarfs had with Snow White.

Herman the Henchman played by George Akid was very funny and had a strong stage presence. There was a scene in particular where his character wanted to become a music icon and performed an amazing routine from some of the greatest musical hits from Queen -  definitely a memorable moment of the show.

The sets and costumes were bright and colourful. There was bright lighting, strong sound projection with great music choices and choreography. Add pyrotechnics and confetti to that and this pantomime had something for everyone.

This production had heart and emotion. The story flowed and kept to the traditions of the pantomime genre such as “It’s behind you” and “Oh no it isn’t". For a small theatre, they went to so much effort to put on this spectacular pantomime which I very much enjoyed.

Audiences will be delighted by the magical moments throughout this jam-packed show which featured all the ingredients audiences come to expect from a top-quality pantomime. This includes being constantly entertained, a professional production with a strong cast who all delivered. It was a memorable evening at the theatre.

The Lichfield Garrick experienced unprecedented demand for this year’s pantomime and therefore the theatre added an extra week of performances to the run. The show is now running until Sunday 8 January 2023. DON’T MISS IT!
