Design the Manchester International Festival's 2017 tote bag

About the MIF brand:

The MIF brand is innovative and direct. It is simple yet elegant, understated yet accessible. It represents the open-to-everything attitude that is the foundation of this artist-led festival, which develops and commissions new work in a great variety of formats. Always surprising, never dull.

The brief:

To come up with the design for the MIF17 tote bag, which will be used by artists, guests and visitors to the Festival. The MIF logo must appear on the bag, and the design must incorporate only one of the approved colours from the MIF colour palette. The design must work on a black bag.

About MIF:

Manchester International Festival (MIF) is the world's first festival of original, new work and special events. The Festival is staged every two years in Manchester – the next edition will take place from 29 June to 16 July 2017 at venues all over the city.

MIF launched in 2007 as an artist-led festival presenting new works from across the spectrum of performing arts, visual arts and popular culture. We've commissioned, produced and presented world premieres by artists as diverse as Björk, Steve McQueen, Maxine Peake, The xx and Marina Abramović, among many others. We bring together artists from different art forms and backgrounds to create dynamic, innovative and forward-thinking new work, which we stage in a rich tapestry of venues across Greater Manchester – from theatres, galleries and concert halls to railway depots, churches and car parks.

Our target audience:

Artists, guests, media and other visitors to MIF17

Deadline:

Noon, Tuesday 28 February 2017
[Designs submitted after this time and date will not be considered]

The winning design:

The design will be screen-printed on to 1,000 black fair trade eco-friendly cotton tote bags and proudly carried around Manchester during MIF17 – and then, possibly, around the world.

The winning designer:

The winning designer will be given two tickets to the opening night of an MIF17 commission and party, and will have their name printed on the bag.

Go to the MIF17 website for technical, printing, and further submission information.
