Applications are invited for this very special award, which will be available for community artists based in Brighton & Hove who are participating in Brighton Fringe 2016.

ART:sync and urbanflo creative in conjunction with Brighton Fringe are very pleased to announce the 'Irene Mensah Artist Bursary' in honour of our dear friend and colleague who sadly passed away in 2013. Applications are invited for this very special award, which will be available for community artists based in Brighton & Hove who are participating in Brighton Fringe 2016.

Irene Mensah Brighton Fringe Bursary

2 cash awards of up to £250 each are available to individual artists or artist collectives to help cover the cost of developing creative projects for participation in Brighton Fringe 2016. This can include costs for costumes, instruments, artist fees and venue hire (performance/rehearsal/studio space). Please note that festival registration fees will be deducted from the award. As an extra offer the bursary winners will also be eligible for a free professional consultation valued at over £600. This will include one-to-one advice on your creative practice, and guidance on issues like International Working, plus creative business skills including; Fundraising, Marketing and Project Management, delivered by from expert advisors from the ART:sync network and urbanflo Creative Consultancy.

How do I apply?

To apply please complete the application form and email it to jenni [at] artsync.co.uk no later than 5pm on 1st December 2015. Applications submitted after this time will not be considered.

Criteria

In order to be considered for the bursary, you must first have a project in development and confirm your venue for Brighton Fringe 2016 - you will be asked to provide proof of this. You will also need to meet the following criteria for African & Asian Art Forms, Urban Art Forms, Spoken Word, Physical Theatre or Visual Art.

All applicants must be;

1. Based in Brighton & Hove

2. Fully committed to cultural diversity and social inclusion in the arts

3. Able to demonstrate a proven track record of artistic engagement with marginalised and/or vulnerable people, eg BME/BAME communities, refugees, deprived neighbourhoods etc

Selection Process:

The bursary winner will be selected by a panel of professional artists and producers from ART:sync and urbanflo, with an initial shortlist followed by interviews. The schedule is as follows;

- 1st December 2015: Deadline for applications

- 15th December 2015: Shortlist announced - candidates will be invited to present their project to the panel

- 7* January 2016: Shortlisted candidates presentations (*date tbc)

- 12 January 2016: Bursary winners announced
