Green Libraries Week 2024 Creative Commission

£2000 Commission to work with young people in Barnsley to turn climate anxiety into positive climate action with final part of activity taking place 7 - 13 October.

Green Libraries Week 2024 Creative Commission

Barnsley Libraries became an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation in 2023, with funding secured to bring a whole range of exciting arts and cultural activities to Libraries across the borough.

They're looking for an artist/s to work with young people in Barnsley to turn climate anxiety into positive action through creative sessions. This should be through creative sessions which happen in library spaces and culminate in some activity, workshop or exhibition during Green Libraries Week that encourages young people to be creative and turn their worries into positive thinking or actions.

They're particularly interested in hearing from artists who live or work in Barnsley and the surrounding Yorkshire region.

What you'll do

  • Plan and deliver a project aimed at young people in Barnsley (age 15+) around climate anxiety.
  • Consider how your proposal is sustainable.
  • Collaborate with the Barnsley Libraries team to devise a suitable method of evaluation for the project and journaling/documenting of any shared learning, this will include at least one meeting which can be held virtually.
  • Complete an artist evaluation survey at the end of the project to let us know how we can improve our commission process for artists.

What they'll do

  • Support the project with room bookings and logistics at the Library.
  • Support you to contact young people in Barnsley.
  • Collaborate in the evaluation process (we already have some methods of evaluation, but we are interested to hear any creative evaluation method you may have).

The deadline for applications is 9am on Monday 8th July.
